Algeria: Moudjahid Lakhdar Bouregaâ died

The Moudjahid and ex-detainee of the popular movement (Hirak) Lakhdar Bouregaâ died this Wednesday, November 4, at the age of 87. The announcement was made this evening by members of his family. He had been hospitalized two weeks ago, after testing positive for Covid-19.

Lakhdar Bouregaâ was hospitalized at the university hospital of Beni Messous, in the wilaya of Algiers, following his contamination with the coronavirus. Affected by Covid-19 in the same way as his wife, the former commander of the NLA of wilaya 4, did not survive the deadly virus.

The mujahid and one of the founders of the Front Forces Socialistes will be buried tomorrow Thursday, in the Carrée of Martyrs in the cemetery of El Alia, in Algiers.

The first-time guerrilla during the war of national liberation,  Lakhdar Bouregâa is also one of the leading figures of the Hirak movement which shook Algeria in February 2019.

He will be arrested on June 29, 2019, for his political positions and imprisoned in El Harrach prison. He was released on January 2, 2020, after more than six months in prison. His state of health deteriorated considerably during his detention, which sparked a great wave of popular indignation.
