The Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation, and Research (MFScIR) has now joined the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) as an associated technical institute. It will contribute to the HGTD project whose objective is to improve the performance of the Atlas detector.
After several months of discussions with its Digitalization & Microelectronics Smart Devices center, the international collaboration ATLAS has co-opted within it the MFScIR foundation, following a unanimous vote of the 180 member institutes, from 38 different countries. , indicates MFScIR in a press release. The foundation thus joins the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) as an associated technical institute. Its mission will be to contribute to the HGTD (High Granularity Timing Detector) project aimed at improving the performance of the Atlas detector.
This detector, as well as other detectors placed at different places of the particle accelerator (LHC: Large Hadron Collider) 27 kilometers long, are located in the border region between France and Switzerland, specifies the same source, stressing that the LHC represents the largest and most complex scientific instrument in the world, having made it possible in particular to confirm the existence of the Higgs boson in 2012. “It allows us to explore the fundamental nature of our Universe and the search for dark matter », Adds MFScIR.
Specifically, the Foundation will make its expertise in the field of microelectronics available to CERN and will participate in the design of microelectronic reading cards meeting very severe constraints in terms of size and resistance to radiation. Likewise, MAScIR will work on the optimization and design of a prototype of the HGTD in order to participate in the assembly and assembly of part of this detector, the press release continued.
