Algeria: Instructions Obliging Port and Maritime Transport Institutions to Work Without Interruption

Algiers: The Minister of Transport, Issa Bakay, called on institutions active in the field of ports and maritime transport to comply with the instructions of Prime Minister Ayman bin Abd al-Rahman, concerning working days and hours.

A ministry statement, released last night on Monday, said Minister Bakai said the institutions concerned are required to work all week and for 24 hours.

The same source added that the Minister spoke of the need to respect the various measures taken to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic “Covid-19”.

The same official, at the headquarters of the Ministry, and in the presence of executives and various sectoral institutions active in the field of maritime transport, chaired the work of the meeting devoted to discussing the annual review of maritime and port security activities.

During this meeting, a presentation was made on various security procedures and measures, including the provisions of the International Code for the Security of Ships and Port Facilities (ISPS Code).

The first man in the sector said that these measures and measures made it possible to assess the security of port facilities and ships, with the development of appropriate security plans for approval and verification.

Bakay spoke of the importance and vitality of these facilities which, according to him, play a fundamental role in the national economy and in the country’s trade, since 95% of them are carried out by the sea.
