Between Canada and the Maghreb, there is a great history of immigration. For those who wish to settle and evolve abroad, without taking the usual path, which in France, which French-speaking North Africans generally take, they, therefore, choose the country of the stable sheet which promises tolerance, success, and prosperity.

Often, Quebec is the ideal province for North African immigrants, especially for linguistic reasons. Being French speakers, their integration will be easier and faster. However, this no longer appears to be the case. To understand these reasons, an Algerian who chose the first name of Saïd so as not to disclose his real identity, confided in the newspaper Le Courrier International on this “abandonment of Quebec”.

Saïd arrived in Montreal in 2019 to start from scratch and live the life he dreamed of. Almost 3 years later, he settled in the capital of Canada in Ontario, thus fleeing Quebec, but he was not the only one.

Why leave Quebec?

First, it was the obligation to find a job in a short period, according to a reform dating from 2019 which consists in validating between 12 and 18 months of work experience in Quebec before applying for permanent residence, and this, for those who graduate after December 30, 2020. Whereas before, a college diploma (DEC) was sufficient, and for workers, only one year of experience was required. To this end, Saïd felt a real rejection.

Then, faced with a complicated labor shortage, Quebec according to Kamal Kadhi, an immigration consultant in Montreal, has very long processing times and an endless wait to cool immigrants. For example, the Quebec mission to recruit workers from the Maghreb, especially in the health sector is not as effective as we think, because of the long treatment once again.

Some groups are asking the authorities to validate more than 50,000 urgent cases to remedy this shortage.
