Industrial production in the Algerian public sector has recorded a growth by 1.3% 

Industrial production in the Algerian public sector has recorded a growth  by 1.3% during 2016 compared to 2015, driven slightly by the sectors of wood and paper processing, building materials and energy, while some fields like iron, steel, mechanical engineering, electric power and electronics industries showed poor performances during the same period of reference, according to  the National Office of Statistics (ONS), APS reported.

Production in energy sector recorded an average annual growth of 2.4% in 2016, while hydrocarbons output went up by 0.3% last year, against 3.1% drop in 2015, said the Office.

The increase in the sector of crude oil and natural gas, which started in the second quarter of 2016, reached 1.8%, while building materials went up by 5.2%, said the ONS.

The same upward trend was recorded in the textile industries, which showed a 2.7% rise in 2016.

The most significant rise has been  observed in the industries of wood and paper processing with an average annual growth of 32.4%, owing to the 36.3% increase in carpentry, +59.1% in furniture, and +12.3% in paper processing, according to figures provided by ONS.
