Air Algérie: Why Prices Are Still Not Falling?

Since the reinforcement, at the beginning of April, of Air Algérie’s flight program, ticket prices have experienced a certain drop after the launch of promotional offers, particularly on departure from France. But the arrival of the summer season could see a rise in prices with the increase in demand.

Last Sunday, the Council of Ministers addressed the issue of air and sea transport ticket prices for Algerians in France. The Head of State asked the Minister of Transport to lower them.

A week after the announcement by the Council of Ministers, nothing has changed. No new program has been unveiled and prices remain at high levels, apart from some good plans from France.

Faced with this situation, voices are being raised for the acceleration of the application of these measures. Some even wonder why these instructions are not yet applied.

“Ticket prices to Algeria remain the most expensive in the world”

The deputy of the Algerians in France, Abdelouahab Yagoubi, reiterates, this Sunday, May 1,  his call to accelerate the application of the instructions of the president, the total opening of the borders and the liberation of the air and maritime transport sector.

In a post published on his Facebook page, the deputy recalls that the question of the prices of tickets for international flights of Air Algérie “remains topical”, stressing that “everyone is waiting for the acceleration of the application of the instructions of the President”.

The importance of the application of these instructions of the president intervenes, according to him, on two levels. This concerns, in the first place, the tourism sector and “the airlines and maritime companies which are waiting for the green light to announce the strengthening of their flight plans and crossings”.

The urgency of applying the President’s instructions also concerns “Algerians residing abroad, who are waiting to finish with the price of tickets to Algeria” in order to finally be able to organize their summer holidays. According to him, these prices “remain the most expensive in the world”.

Lower Air Algerie ticket prices: what Abdelouahab Yagoubi offers

Abdelouahab Yagoubi proposes a series of measures to be implemented to lower the price of plane tickets to Algeria, and permanently.

In this regard, he affirms that the vertiginous rise in ticket prices, after the partial recovery, “urgently requires the liberation of the air transport sector and the promotion of price competition, so as to better serve Algerians”.

The deputy insists on “the serious and rapid opening of the Algerian sky”. In this sense, he recommends “a good negotiation of an OpenSky agreement with the European Union”. This will have to open “the locks imposed by the Franco-Algerian agreement of February 16, 2006, relating to air transport”, underlines the speaker again.

In addition, the deputy of the Algerians in France wonders “when will the right to the constitutional freedom of movement of Algerians without artificial obstacles?“, especially after the pandemic is now defeated.
