Stellantis has launched the process of acquiring the company Sopriam, which, through its subsidiary SGA, ensures the import and distribution of Citroën, DS, and Peugeot vehicles in Morocco.

The  Stellantis group is once again strengthening its presence in the Africa-Middle East region.  After having invested heavily in recent years in its production capacities in Algeria  [ the Stellantis plant in Oran produces the Fiat 500 Hybrid, editor’s note] and in Morocco  [ the Kenitra site specializes in the manufacture of the Citroën Ami, Fiat Topolino, and Opel Rock-e quadricycles and is also due to receive a new vehicle on the Small Car platform, editor’s note] and then presented a product plan more specific to this region, the Franco-Italian-American group is now tackling the distribution of its vehicles.

According to a statement from the Moroccan Competition Council, Stellantis wants to take control of the Société de promotion industrielle automobile au Maroc  (also owning Société Générale Automobile) now owned by Al Mada, a Moroccan investment fund. Founded in 1977, Sopriam “specializes in the automotive and spare parts distribution sector and operates as the exclusive importer of three automobile brands ( Citroën, DS, and Peugeot ) in the Kingdom.”

To date, Sopriam has a network of 17 branches and 10 dealers spread across the whole of Morocco.
