Initiated by the British Council, an independent study, conducted among 1,200 young Moroccans, shows that the overwhelming majority of young Moroccans consider the English language to be a “vital language” for their future and for that of Morocco!

According to a report entitled “Shift to English in Morocco” and whose publication coincided with the International Day of the English Language, a large majority of young Moroccans, aged between 15 and 25, expressed their appetite for English!

More than 70% of young Moroccans are convinced that, in the next 10 years, English will succeed in “definitively” replacing French as the first foreign language in Morocco. 74% of them think that the switch to English will benefit Morocco’s ambitions as an international business and tourism hub!…

“English is the language of the future,” respondents said. “Everyone is turning to the English language because of its dominance on the Internet.” English, therefore, seems to be gaining more and more ground, with young people recognizing its value and importance in today’s world!…

English is even considered more important to learn than Arabic (respectively 65% ​​of respondents versus 25%): Young people are much more inclined to recommend learning English instead of Arabic or French because they consider English as an international language, but also as the language of science, business, the Internet and the future! …

Speaking on this, Tony Reilly , National Director of British Council Morocco, said:“Morocco is a country with a rich and diverse culture and multilingual history. It must not and will not change. Multilingualism in an increasingly interconnected world is a considerable asset. What this survey underscores, however, is a clear recognition, expressed by the new generation of Moroccans, of the growing importance of English as an international language. The British Council will continue to support the Ministry of Education in its efforts to mainstream English learning in Morocco, but also to provide young people with opportunities to learn English through face-to-face education programs and in line ” !…

Moroccans who speak English the best tend to be younger and more educated, in addition to having access to higher income levels. The choice is clear, English is now considered the language of the future in Morocco! …
