There was no opposition, at the Security Council, to the United States’ proposal, he said.

The Security Council made a similar mission in Western Sahara in 1995, but the absence of ย consensus among its members prevented it to go back again to the territory.

Boukhari, who welcomed the US proposal, said the mission will “show Security Council’s interest in being on the ground of a conflict high on its agenda.”
