ALGIERS – President of the Constitutional Council Mourad Medelci said Tuesday in Algiers that “President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has urged the members of the Council to consolidate the Rule of Law, as they took an oath.”
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Medelci said in a statement to the press that President Bouteflika gave a series of recommendations aiming “the consolidation of the Rule of Law; deemed as the top priority of State institutions, including the Constitutional Council.”
He added that the swearing-in before the president of the Republic, in application of the Article 183 of the Constitution “is regarded as a commitment of each member to fully fulfill the missions, as stipulated in the Constitution.”
During the inauguration, President Bouteflika wished to the members, every success in the fulfillment of their missions, which have been enlarged as part of the recent constitutional revision.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, State Minister, Principal Private Secretary at Presidency of the Republic Ahmed Ouyahia, Minister of State, Special Adviser to President of the Republic Tayeb Belaïz, Minister of Justice Tayeb Louh, President of the Supreme Court Slimane Boudi and Chairwoman of the Council of the State.
The Constitutional Council of composed of 12 members: four having been designated by the president of the Republic, among them the president and the vice-president of the Council, two elected by the People’s National Assembly, two by the Council of the Nations, two by the Supreme Court and two by the Council of the State.
