ALGIERS- Raffi Gregorian, the Acting Deputy Coordinator for Regional and Multilateral Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism and Countering Violent Extremism (CT), on Tuesday, praised Algeria’s expertise in the fight against terrorism, calling for sharing this experience with other countries.
In a statement following an audience granted to him by Minister of Religious Affairs Mohamed Aissa, Gregorian said his country has learned a lot from Algeria’s experience in the fight against terrorism that hit the country during the black decade (the 1990s), calling on Algeria to share its experience with the other world countries.”
The US official said his visit to Algeria is part of his participation in the international meeting on counterterrorism, held as part of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) Working Group on Capacity Building in West Africa.
The meeting discussed cross border crime and money laundering.
Mohamed Aissa, for his part, said he tackled, in the meeting with the US official, Algeria’s experience adopted by the UN for prevention against and eradication of terrorism.
The experience of Algeria in the field is “rich,” he said, adding that it is inspired from “moderate Islam” and “the history of Algeria, and its values of cohabitation, dialogue and peace.”
