The Minister of Tourism, Moez Belhassine, said on Wednesday April 27 that the indicators for the tourist season are positive, after an extremely difficult period of the Coronavirus pandemic, which completely paralyzed the sector.

In an interview with Mosaïque, Belhassine mentioned an increase in indicators until April 20 of 128%, compared to the same period of 2021. We are working in collaboration with all the parties concerned to achieve between 50 and 60% of the indicators from 2019, which is considered a baseline year, he said.

Moez Belhassine also indicated that “Russian tourists represented 6% of arrivals in Tunisia in 2019, but given the current situation and the war between Russia and Ukraine, work is underway to find opportunities and opportunities in other markets, restoring trust with our partners”.

The minister insisted on domestic tourism, which is extremely important, calling for “the need to give priority to the Tunisian citizen, whether inside or outside the country”.

Regarding forecasts for tourist arrivals, he replied that his ministry is working to achieve half of what was done in 2019, during which some 9.4 million tourists visited Tunisia, a record figure of about 4 million tourists.

Efforts will focus on the Algerian and Libyan markets, he said.
