Tunisia: Trade Balance of Fishing Products in Surplus of 286 MTD

Tunisia’s trade balance for fishery products recorded a surplus of 286 million dinars (MDT) at the end of November 2023, down to 388 MTD in 2022 (-26.3%).

This is what emerges from the data published Friday, January 19, 2024, by the National Agricultural Observatory (Onagri), which adds that exports of fishing products totaled 32,000 tonnes for a total value of 712 MTD at the end of November 2023, down 6% in value and 3% in quantity compared to the same period in 2022. Likewise, export prices fell by 0.3% compared to November 2022.

The most exported products are fish (13,200 tonnes), shellfish (9,200 tonnes), canned and semi-salted fish (7,200 tonnes).

Tunisian fishing is exported to 45 countries, mainly Italy (33%), Libya (17%) and Spain (13%).

The value of imports saw a slight increase of 16.1% at the end of November 2023 to reach 426 MTD. Imported quantities increased by 17% to 69,000 tonnes while import prices stagnated compared to the same period in 2022. 64% of imports are intended for industrialization (anchovies and frozen tuna), fattening fish (20%), and market supply (16%).
