Tunisia: Textile and Clothing Exports up 7% (11 Months 2023)

Exports of the textile and clothing (TH) sector in Tunisia increased by 7%, at the end of November 2023, compared to the same period of the past year, to reach 8.864 million dinars (MDT). The coverage rate reaches 131%.

This is what emerges from the data published Thursday, December 21, 2023, by the Ministry of Commerce, which adds that the value of exports exceeded, at the end of November 2023, 25.31% that recorded in the same period in 2019 (7 074.1 MTD), i.e. before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Concerning exports of pants, which represent 27% of the textile and clothing sector, their value recorded a decrease of 0.88% compared to the end of November 2022.

Exports of ready-to-wear clothing to the European Union (EU), the main outlet for Tunisian industrial products, increased by 5.45% compared to the end of November 2022, to reach 2.106 million euros. They represent 80% of the sector’s exports.

Ready-to-wear recorded a drop of 20.11% compared to the end of November 2022, reaching 249,400 dinars.

During the first eleven months of 2023, Tunisia’s textile and clothing exports grew in dinars by 7%, to reach 8.864 million dinars (MDT), and in euros, by 3. 84% compared to the same period of 2022, to reach €2.642 million, with a coverage rate estimated at 131%.

These results exceeded the value of exports recorded during the same period of the year 2019 (before the Corona pandemic) in dinars and euros, respectively, by 25.31% (7,074 MTD) and 23.61% (€2,137 million).

It should be noted that exports for November recorded a slight growth in dinars of 0.28% and a decrease in euros of 1.44%, compared to the same period in 2022, where they had reached 818 MTD and €241.7 million.

The value of pants exports also decreased in dinars and euros, respectively, by 0.88% and 3.81%, compared to the same period in 2022, when it reached 1.990 MTD and 593 M€. The latter represents 27% of total ready-to-wear exports.

The value of ready-to-wear exports to the European Union increased by 5.45% to €2.106 million compared to the same period in 2022. The latter represents 80% of the sector’s total exports.

On the other hand, imports of ready-to-wear clothing from the local market experienced a drop in value of 20.11%, to reach 248 MTD, and in quantity, of 15.08%, to reach 3,400 tonnes compared to the same period of the year 2022.
