By decision of the correctional chamber at the Military Court of First Instance of Tunis

The investigating judge of the correctional chamber at the Military Court of First Instance in Tunis decided, this Monday, January 17, 2022, to release the suspended deputies belonging to the Al Karama Coalition in the frozen Tunisian parliament, Seif Eddine Makhlouf and Nidhal Saoudi in the so-called “airport” case, and to postpone the hearing to a later session, announced Abderrazak Kilani, Tunisian lawyer, former president of the National Bar Association of Tunisia and former minister in Hamadi Jebali’s government.

Several deputies and members of the Al Karama Coalition, including Abdellatif Aloui, also confirmed the release of Seifeddine Makhlouf and Nidhal Saoudi, and expressed, at the same time, their satisfaction with what they described as “the first victory of the active forces of Tunisia against the putschist regime of Kaïs Saïed”.

As a reminder, Seifeddine Makhlouf was arrested following the issuance of two warrants of committal against him by the Military Court of Tunis.

The first case, known as “from the airport”, dates back to last March, when the deputy had tried to intervene in favor of a lady who was banned from traveling, in accordance with the S17 procedure, and clashed with the security forces at Tunis-Carthage airport.

Makhlouf is also prosecuted for threats and contempt of court.

It should be noted that the Tunisian military justice has issued arrest warrants against a certain number of members of the parliamentary bloc of the “Al Karama Coalition”.

All Tunisian deputies have been suspended and stripped of their parliamentary immunity since July 25, by the decision of the President of the Republic of Tunisia, Kaïs Saïed.
