Tunisia: Next Resumption of Fuel Supply

As the lines of cars lengthen in front of the gas kiosks, the authorities have broken their silence to try to reassure consumers that the supply of fuel to service stations in Greater Tunis will soon resume.

“Supply will resume its normal pace in one to two days at the latest”,  said the CEO of the Tunisian Society of Refining Industries (Stir), Afif Mabrouki, at the Tap agency.

Mabrouki explained this lack by the drop in stock in the Radès warehouses under his company, due to a delay by a ship transporting quantities of hydrocarbons. Which arrived at the port of Radès on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

The manager indicated that Stir will intensify supplies from the Bizerte and Skhira warehouses while waiting for the normal pace of supply to be restored from the Radès warehouses. He added that two additional cargoes of fuel will land in the coming days to meet the country’s needs until mid-January 2024.

“We have taken our precautions to ensure a good supply of the market but the rush of citizens towards service stations, observed especially in the capital Tunis, was behind the lack of fuel in certain stations,” he added, thus placing the responsibility for the shortage observed on motorists themselves. While this falls to the services of Mr. Mabrouki who did not place the order on time or did not ensure the necessary follow-up to avoid exhaustion of stock. The stock was still not exhausted in two or three days.
