Tunisia won two gold medals at the 48th edition of the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, which took place from April 26 to 30.

The first distinction was awarded to the young Erij Messadi, a researcher at the Laboratory of Biomolecules, Venoms, and Theranostic Applications (LBVAT) of the Pasteur Institute in Tunis.

Erij Messadi was at the origin of an invention entitled “Lebecetin, lectin type C, as an inhibitor of neovascularization”. According to the Pasteur Institute of Tunis, it is “a functional variant or a fragment thereof, intended for use as a neovascularization inhibitor, in particular in the treatment of neovascular diseases such as cancers or inflammatory disorders with a neovascular component”.

The second distinction was won by Mounir Bezzarga for his invention ImmunoDefender.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, the researcher explains that it is a drug formula made up of ten essential oils with antiviral properties. This innovation is, according to Mr. Bezzarga, effective against several viruses including Sars-Cov-2 (Covid-19).
