Inflation continued to rise in Tunisia, for the fourth consecutive month, with a further rise to 7.5%, recorded last April, on an annual basis, according to figures. of the National Institute of Statistics, made public this Thursday.

The National Institute of Statistics (government) said that “the inflation rate continued to increase to reach 7.5% during the month of April, after having been around 7.2 % in March, 7% in February, and 6.7% during the month of January”.

The institute attributed the rise in the inflation rate in April to “acceleration in the rate of increase in the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco from 21% (in March) to 24.2% (in April), prices clothing and footwear from 9.8% to 10.1%, prices of furniture, equipment, and home services from 6.1% to 7.4%, and prices of materials and transportation services from 5.9 % to 6.7%.

Tunisia suffers from a relative shortage of goods and food products, such as flour, oils, rice, and bread, which has forced the large commercial brands to limit the quantities of the goods in question, which can be acquired by individuals.
