President Kaïs Saïed spoke for the first time since the local elections which were held this weekend in Tunisia on December 26, 2023. This election was rather shunned by voters. During his trip to a steel factory, the Tunisian president made a point of standing tall.

48 hours after the local elections which he instigated, and which attracted less than 12% of voters, Kaïs Saïed devoted his first presidential trip to a steel factory. The president appeared determined to show that he remained the strong man of Carthage, he nevertheless recognized the low participation in this election.

“  It will take a little more time for the people to trust the people who represent them again. There are people in the administration who are nostalgic for the past, but history never goes back,” he said.

The stated objective of the trip: to insist on the need to turn around this public company. A field visit which was the opportunity, once again, for Kaïs Saïed, to attack the opposition supported, according to him, by foreign apparatuses.

“  Those who say they want to save the country only have to try to save our public companies and not demonstrate in front of the municipal theater of Tunis. We know that their director is abroad and that they are just puppets who are content to dance on the steps of this theater,” he also said.

For months, Kaïs Saïed has been making frequent trips, often at night, to major public structures in the country to raise awareness of the need to put an end to what he calls “corruption  ”. Several businessmen accused of corruption have been arrested in Tunis in recent weeks.
