A coalition of political parties in Tunisia announced Monday its boycott of local elections scheduled for December 24, insisting on the holding of an inclusive national dialogue to “save the country.”

Made up of several Tunisian political parties and associations, the National Salvation Front has launched an appeal to all the country’s active forces to boycott the upcoming elections which do not arouse “the interest of Tunisians ”.

To get out of this deadlock, the president of the Front, Ahmed Nejib Chebbi, considered it necessary, during a press conference in Tunis, to revise the legal arsenal governing these deadlines, pleading for the holding of legislative and presidential elections. anticipated.

According to Nejib Chebbi, “a new stage of democratic transition is necessary in Tunisia,” because this election, he said, “does not meet international standards in terms of democracy.”

He considers that the majority of Tunisians do not adhere to the political project underway in the country, as evidenced by the low participation rate of Tunisians in the referendum on the Constitution, in national consultations and in the last legislative elections.

Ahmed Nejib Chebbi emphasized the importance of initiating an inclusive national dialogue around the political and economic situation in the country, as well as the necessary reforms to be undertaken.

“The solution is to organize an inclusive national debate and sit around the table in order to stop the hemorrhaging of public finances,” he insisted.
