To face the social and economic challenges of Tunisia, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar said Tunisia’s main priorities are “social and economic”, calling for French support to develop these areas.

This is indicated in a statement made public on Wednesday evening by the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following a meeting between the head of Tunisian diplomacy Nabil Ammar and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Jean-Louis Bourlanges.

The Tunisian Minister affirmed his country’s desire to “strengthen friendly relations and deepen the aspects of cooperation and partnership with France within the framework of mutual respect”, recalling in this context the statements of President Emmanuel Macron, who called for “peer-to-peer” treatment when it comes to Franco-Tunisian relations.

For his part, Jean-Louis Bourlanges declared that “French MPs are motivated by the desire to support Tunisia, and the success of its efforts aimed at perpetuating democratic institutions and facing social and economic challenges”.

He affirmed “the disposition of French elected officials to activate and support cooperation with the new Assembly of People’s Representatives”, according to the press release.

The Tunisian foreign minister began a two-day working visit to France on Tuesday, during which he met his counterpart, Catherine Colonna, in the first meeting of its kind between the two ministers.
