Pro-Palestinian Movement in the USA: “The Battle of Algiers” Inspires American Students

Starting around ten days ago from Columbia University in New York, a wave of support for the Palestinians, against the war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip, has reached a good number of establishments, from California, in the northwest of the USA, passing through the south and the center.

At Stanford University, American students also set up camp to denounce Israel’s war against the Gazans and to say “No” to the violence committed against the women and children of Gaza.

Furthermore, this movement of support for Palestine stands out with the screening of the film “The Battle of Algiers”, directed by Gillo Pontecorvo and released in 1966. The film which relates the story of Ali la Pointe, becomes a real source of inspiration for revolutionary thought and values ​​in the fight against inequality and injustice around the world.

Gillo Pontecorvo’s multi-award-winning film was screened at the student sit-in protest camps at the prestigious Stanford University. The projection was widely distributed online, accompanied by images illustrating this moment. In addition, Ali La Pointe’s film was also screened at the pro-Palestinian student camp at the University of Sydney.

“The Battle of Algiers”, is a cinematographic work that recounts torture, violence, and various violations of human rights. In particular, those committed against a people grieved by pain and the thirst for freedom.
