The Malian Army Targeted by a New Attack, Against the Military Camp of Sévaré

The Malian army said it had foiled a new attack on a military camp in the center. This attack comes 48 hours after a suicide attack against the garrison town of Kati, not far from the capital, Bamako.

“The Malian armed forces have once again foiled an attempted attack on the GNM (National Guard of Mali) camp in Sévaré, early this Sunday, July 24, 2022, around 5:40 a.m. The provisional report shows a neutralized terrorist”, according to the Anadolu agency, the army indicated on its social networks. Information was confirmed by an AFP source who requested anonymity.

“Our national guard camp was attacked this Sunday in Sévaré by terrorists,” said the senior officer of the national guard camp in Sévaré, adding that “during the response, we neutralized a terrorist. The situation is under control”. This attack comes about 48 hours after that of Kati, a garrison town where the residence of the President of the Malian Transition, Colonel Assimi Goïta, is located.

If the assault of this Sunday, July 24, 2022, has not yet been claimed, the attack on Friday, on the other hand, was signed by the GSIM (Support Group for Islam and Muslims (“We say to the government of Bamako: if you have the right to hire a mercenary to kill defenseless innocents, then it is our right to destroy you as well”, threatened the GSIM.
