The Future of Artificial Intelligence in Morocco and Africa Under Debate in Rabat

The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and its AI Movement are taking the lead in propelling Morocco and Africa into a new digital era. Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, a high-level international Forum on Artificial Intelligence will be held from June 3 to 5, 2024 in Rabat, aiming to make this century the century of Africa thanks to AI.

It is the AI ​​Movement that will host the high-level international Forum on Artificial Intelligence at its headquarters in Rabat. This unique event will bring together world leaders, technology experts, policymakers, and representatives of civil society to discuss the latest advances in AI in Morocco and the rest of Africa. With applications of disturbing generative intelligence and autonomous machines emerging, artificial intelligence promises to profoundly transform personal and professional lives. Opening debates now on its contributions and risks could only be beneficial.

Good governance, ethics, and protecting privacy and personal data are all themes that will be addressed first. Participants will also explore avenues for innovative and promising partnerships for Africans to maximize the benefits of this technological revolution.

One of the highlights of the Forum will be the official launch in Rabat, under the aegis of UNESCO, of the first category 2 AI Center in Africa. Professor Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, the dynamic pillar of this initiative, will present the vision of this center, which symbolizes a decisive step towards integrating AI into the continent’s development strategies.

The Forum will be punctuated by inspiring TED-style talks, startup success stories, and interactive sessions led by AI experts from Africa, America, Europe, China, and the Middle East. This extensive brainstorming will highlight a diversity of perspectives and knowledge, enriching the debate on the implications and applications of AI.

The Forum will also provide networking opportunities, allowing participants to make connections, exchange ideas, and forge partnerships for future projects. This platform will be a springboard for fruitful collaborations, strengthening collective commitment to a prosperous and technological future for Africa.
