Morocco: Association Condemns the Docking of an Israeli Warship at the Port of Tangier

As part of the ship’s stopover between Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Naval Base Haifa, the crew stocked up on fuel and food for the remainder of the voyage to Israel at the port of Tanger Med, in Morocco.

An Israeli warship, the INS Komemiyut, stopped at the large port of Tanger Med (north of Morocco) to resupply with food, fuel, and equipment before continuing its route toward Israel. A fact that was condemned by the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and against Normalization.

The Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalization condemned the decision of the authorities to allow the Israeli navy ship, the INS Komemiyut, to dock at the port of Tangier, allowing its crew to refuel and refuel. supplies amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The NGO described the authorities’ actions as “dangerous, shameful and cowardly”, saying they represent “an abandonment of national sovereignty, a flagrant violation of the constitution, a contempt and an insult to the feelings of Moroccans, and a blatant attack on their cultural and historical heritage.”

They stressed that this action constitutes complicity and participation of the Moroccan authorities with โ€œIsraelโ€ in its aggression against the Palestinian people and the desecration of the sanctities of the Moroccan people and the Arab and Islamic nations.

Furthermore, they insisted that this constitutes a violation of the United Nations Charter, the UN General Assembly resolution, recent decisions of the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and the report of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The group called for an urgent investigation to determine responsibility and punish those found responsible for this action.

The Front also urged all national forces active in Morocco to unite their efforts to confront this โ€œdangerous tsunamiโ€, defend the country, protect its sovereignty, and support the Palestinian struggle.

Sailing from the United States to โ€œIsraelโ€ The Israeli navy ship INS Komemiyut docked a few days ago at the Moroccan port of Tangier from the United States bound for โ€œIsraelโ€. The ship arrived at the port of Haifa on June 16.

According to the Israeli website Globes, the ship stopped at the port of Tangier to refuel after contacting Morocco, where the equipment was transferred on board.

In detail, the ship turned off its tracking transponder during the transfer of supplies to Tangier.

The US-built INS Komemiyut is the Israeli Navy’s second landing ship, following the INS Nahshon, which was delivered in early October last year.

The INS Nahshon also docked in Morocco en route to โ€œIsraelโ€ before arriving at the port of Haifa in September last year.

This comes as the Israeli genocide against the Palestinians has lasted 261 days, killing at least 37,431 people and injuring 85,653, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Spain refused

About a month ago, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Fuente announced that the Danish-flagged cargo ship Marian Danica, which had requested to dock in Cartagena, had been refused because, according to the Spanish newspaper “El Pais”, it was carrying 27 tons of explosives to Israel.

Without the Houthi rebel attacks in the Red Sea, the ship would not have crossed Spanish economic waters but would have been diverted via the Cape of Good Hope, and from there to Gibraltar. The lengthening of the journey led to the need to stop for refueling, but the Madrid authorities did not approve.

Last weekend, 116 marches took place in 48 cities across Morocco, as part of a vast anti-Israeli demonstration. Behind the pro-Palestinian protests is an organization called the Moroccan Organization for the Defense of National Issues, a name with pan-Islamic connotations. The same organization said it had organized the demonstration so that it โ€œexpressed the solidarity of the Moroccan people with the Palestinian people and the Palestinian question.โ€
