President Abdelmadjid Tebboune spoke to Algerians on Sunday in a video message from his convalescent place in Germany.

In a 2.2-minute message, the President of the Republic recalled having been urgently evacuated abroad nearly two months ago, after having tested positive for Covid-19.

“Today, thanks to Gods, to the doctors at the military hospital (Ain Naâdja) and from Germany, I am on the road to recovery. Maybe it will take a week, two weeks or three weeks, I will recover all my physical strength. My remoteness from the country does not mean that I have forgotten it. I keep track of everything that happens, and when necessary I give instructions to the Presidency, “he said

President Tebboune was evacuated to Germany on October 28, after being infected with Covid-19. This is the head of state’s first appearance since October 15.

Mr. Tebboune returned to the first anniversary of his election on December 12, 2019, referring to the continuation of the political reforms he began with the constitutional revision.

“For the elections, I asked the Presidency to see with the commission responsible for drafting the new electoral law to start the operation planned after the revision of the Constitution,” he added.

The head of state spoke of the epidemiological situation while welcoming the decline in Covid-19 contaminations, which he said has dropped from “1,300 cases to nearly 520 cases”.

For the political situation in the region, “Algeria is strong, it is stronger than some think. “What is happening now was planned and Algeria cannot be destabilized,” he said.

Without giving a precise date for his return to Algeria, President Tebboune says he hopes he will be “soon with us”.
