Stockholm, 06 Dec 2020 (SPS) The Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Ann Linde confirmed yesterday that her country has never recognized Morocco’s allegations or claims in Western Sahara in accordance with the legal reading of the UN to conflict.
In response to a question from a parliamentarian, Ms. Linde reiterated the efforts led by Sweden to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict, guaranteeing the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
And to add: ” I believe that there is urgency in the appointment of a new personal envoy of SG of the United Nations as soon as possible, in order to relaunch the political operation and the latest developments prove this necessity ‘ ‘.
Regarding the situation in El Guerguerat, the Minister stressed that it is more than necessary to make more efforts to maintain the ceasefire. And to insist that the only way out to put an end to this tension is to hold a referendum on self-determination of the Saharawi people. (SPS)
