The Spanish Foreign Minister reiterates his government’s commitment to encourage Morocco and Algeria to resume dialogue. “Obviously, when Spain sees that the tension is mounting between two strategic partners, it worries us. It’s not something we like.

These are two fundamental partners for Spain, but also for the European Union. And above all, it is with them that we are going to build the Mediterranean,” said José Manuel Albares in an interview with Diario Sevilla.

The head of the diplomacy stressed that the executive Sanchez intends to seize the meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean, on November 28 and 29 in Barcelona, to discuss this subject with the representatives of the two neighboring countries. “We will of course always work in favor of detente, in favor of good neighborliness. Dialogue is essential,” he said.

Since the breakdown of relations with Morocco, the Algerian government has rejected all offers of mediation.

Finally, on the issue of relations with Rabat, Albares noted that “since the summer, Morocco has fully collaborated in matters of immigration (…)”. “We have a strategic partnership with Morocco. It is a fundamental country for the stability of the entire Mediterranean”, he added.
