Seven Quintals of Kif Intercepted by the Army in One Week near the Moroccan Borders

Four elements supporting terrorist groups were arrested by detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) who also thwarted attempts to introduce more than seven (7) quintals of processed kif across the borders with Morocco, during the period from June 8 to 14, indicates an operational report made public this Wednesday by the Ministry of National Defense (DND).

In the dynamics of sustained efforts in the fight against terrorism and against multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the ANP carried out, during the period from 08 to 14 June 2022, several operations which led to quality results which reflect the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent availability of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory”, specifies the same source, noting that within the framework of the fight against terrorism, “detachments of the ANP arrested four (04) support elements for terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory”.

“As part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the intense efforts to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP have arrested, in coordination with the various security services at the territorial level of the 2nd and 3rd Military Regions (RM), 06 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce large quantities of drugs across the borders with Morocco, amounting to 07 quintals and 19 kilograms of treated kif”, indicates the press release , adding that “19 other drug traffickers were arrested in their possession of 05 kilograms of the same substance and 48,352 psychotropic tablets, during various operations carried out through the other military regions”.

In addition, detachments of the ANP “intercepted, in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam and Djanet, 156 individuals and seized 17 vehicles, 38 generators, 21 jackhammers, 30 tons of raw gold mixture and of stones, detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations”, adds the press release, noting that “21 other individuals were apprehended and 19 hunting rifles, 03 automatic pistols, 31,065 packets of tobacco, 28 tons foodstuffs intended for smuggling, were seized in Ouargla, El-Oued, M’sila, Biskra and Ghardaïa”.

In addition, “the Border Guards thwarted, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle huge quantities of fuel amounting to 75,409 liters in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Tébessa, El-Tarf and Souk Ahras”, according to the same source, specifying that in another context, “the Coast Guard thwarted, at the level of our national coasts, attempts at illegal emigration and proceeded to the rescue of (84) individuals aboard craft-built boats, while 152 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory”.
