Said Bouhadja elected president of the National People’s Congress

Said Bouhadja, a member of the National Liberation Front (NLF) party, was elected on Tuesday by a majority vote of the National People’s Congress (NPC) for the eighth parliamentary term (2017-2022). He was elected with 356 votes.

Said Bouhadja, the FLN candidate who won 161 seats in the last parliamentary elections and who had also received support from several other political formations, such as the RND (100 seats), the TAJ (20 seats) and the MPA (13 seats) In competition with three other candidates.

These include Smail Mimoune of the MSP Alliance, Lakhdar Benkhellaf for the Ennahda-Adala-Bina Union and Nora Ouali for the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD).

Candidate Smail Mimoun for the Society for Peace Movement (MSP) won 47 votes, Lakhdar Benkhellaf for the Ennahda-Adala-Bina Union (17 votes) and Ouali Nora for the Rally for Culture And Democracy (RCD) 10 votes, while 19 invalid ballots were recorded.

Born on 22 April 1938 in Skikda, the new president of the NPC is a mujahid from the historic wilaya in the east of the country. After independence, Bouhadja joined the youth organization of the National Liberation Front (JFLN) as a member of the secretariat of the wilaya of Constantine.

Bouhadja, who was elected MP for the riding of Skikda on 4 May, is a law graduate from the University of Algiers. As for his journey to the FLN, he was notably Muhafed in Bechar, Oran and Annaba. He has always been a member of the FLN Political Bureau, before being appointed spokesman of the party by the former secretary general of the FLN, Abdelaziz Belkhadem. In addition, during the 1997-2002 legislature, he chaired the AFN External Relations Commission.
