The Algerian subsidiary of the French car manufacturer Renault has unveiled the prices of new vehicles from its Renault and Dacia brands which will be marketed again on the Algerian market, with a notable increase in prices.

After the temporary resumption of assembly activity at Renault’s Algerian plant in Oued Tlelat near Oran last May, Renault production Algeria began assembling 4,600 vehicles, after the customs clearance of their kits which were stranded at the port of Oran.

According to a source close to Renault, the Renault Symbol will be offered at a price of 2.509,000 dinars (250 million cents), while the Dacia Steway will be offered at 2,769,000 dinars (277 million cents). The last price of the Renault Symbol was posted at 1,639,000 dinars (164 million centimes) before the plant closed due to the suspension of imports.

The vehicles assembled in Ouled Tlelat are dispatched to all 56 diamond brand dealers across the country. Customers can order directly at Renault dealerships, according to our source. “The quantities are very limited.”

The reasons for the increase in vehicle prices

As a reminder, this marketing comes after the customs clearance of 6,400 vehicles in CKD/SKD kit imported “out of quota” in 2020. Blocked at the port for more than a year, these vehicles were cleared after the dismissal of the former Minister of Industry, Ferhat Aït Ali.

According to Renault officials quoted by TSA on May 23, the number of cars that will be assembled during this recovery is 4,600 units. “Renault paid the VAT and customs duties on the customs clearance kits. The prices of vehicles will be higher than those leaving the factory before the end of imports of SKD / CKD kits, that is to say in 2019”, indicated these officials.

“We will naturally pass on the VAT and customs duties on the price of the assembled vehicle”, they specified. These taxes did not exist before the shutdown of the factory since the parts intended for vehicles assembled in Algeria were not subject to VAT and customs duties.

In addition, Renault officials told TSA that the price of vehicles will be impacted by the parity of the dinar against the euro and the dollar. The national currency lost 20% of its value against the European currency in 2020, and more than 10% against the US dollar.
