ALGIERS – The bodies of the two Algerians killed last Sunday in the terrorist attack on the Cultural Islamic Centre of Quebec (Canada) have been repatriated on Saturday to Algeria, in the presence of their families and relatives.
The victims are two men; Abdelkrim Hassane, born on 20 May 1975 in Algiers and Khaled Belkacemi born on 18 January 1957 in El Harrach (Algiers suburb).
The Fatiha of the Holy Koran has been recited in tribute to the victims.
Foreign Ministry’s general secretary Hassan Rabehi, present at the Houari-Boumediene Airport (Algiers), said that “the Algerian authorities have taken all the necessary measures for the repatriation of the bodies, in coordination with our embassy and the Canadian authorities.”
Calling the Algerian community residing abroad for “increased vigilance and greater solidarity,” Rabehi mentioned the “sincere solidarity” expressed by this very community in those circumstances, adding that this solidarity “reinforces the places of our community (abroad) and consolidate the links with Algeria.”
“We also express our strong condemnation of terrorism and call upon the international community to show solidarity in the fight against the scourge of terrorism and Islamophobia, and create the conditions for co-existence among peoples and civilizations for the benefit of all mankind.”
The burial of Abdelkrim Hassane will take place Saturday in Staouéli while that of Khaled Belkacemi will be in El Harrach.
