ORAN (Algeria)- The 24th National Surgery Congress opened Sunday at the November 1st teaching hospital of Oran (432-km west of Algiers), with the participation of 120 foreign surgeons from 18 countries and the national surgical corporate body.

The participation of such a number of foreign surgeons, come to share their expertise and know-how in the various surgery areas, is motivated by the fact that Oran will host the 16th “prestigious” congress of the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Endoscopic Surgery Association (MMESA), from Monday.

Prof. Boubekeur, the chairman of the Algerian Surgery Society and the organizer of the National Surgery Congress, said in a press briefing, held on the sidelines of the event, that he had invited, in advance, all foreign surgeons to take part in the congress to make it possible for their Algerian counterparts to benefit from their expertise.

“It is a real challenge to bring together all those experts for four days to develop and exchange surgery expertise,” said Dr. Mohamed Mansouri, manager of Oran’s teaching hospital and chairman of the organizing committee.

Surgeons from Europe (France, Spain, Italy, etc.), the Middle East (Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Iran) and the Maghreb (Morocco and Tunisia) are due to make addresses and present papers at the event.
