Morocco is to contribute to rebuilding Notre Dame Cathedral, which caught fire in the French capital Paris earlier this week.

The Moroccan embassy in France has commissioned its ambassador, Chakib Benmoussa, to inform the Archbishop of Paris, Michel Aupetit, that Morocco’s King Mohammed VI will make a financial contribution to the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral, Maghreb Arabe Pressreported yesterday.

The ambassador also conveyed the Moroccan king and people’s support, condolences and solidarity after the burning of the cathedral, which he described as a symbol of Paris, the history of France and an important site for millions of Christian worshippers.

After the fire, which broke out at Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday, several European countries have vowed to contribute to rebuilding the cathedral; Morocco is the first Arab country to join them.
