Moroccan security has arrested seven foreigners suspected of being linked to an international network of human trafficking and organization of irregular migration.

This is what emerged from the press release from the General Directorate of National Security of the Ministry of the Interior, relayed by the Moroccan Press Agency on Wednesday evening.

The security department said that “the police in the security zone of Mohammed V international airport in Casablanca (north) managed to arrest, on Tuesday, seven foreigners, aged 28 to 68”.

The Moroccan authorities specified that they are “four Bulgarians and three Iranians, suspected of being linked to an international human trafficking network and of organizing clandestine migration”.

“Border control operations resulted in the arrest of three Iranians in the act of attempting to immigrate (…) to a Spanish airport with false identity papers,” added the same source.

“Research and investigations have led to the arrest of four Bulgarians suspected of being involved in the planning and preparation of this irregular migration attempt”

According to the statement, authorities seized a set of fake foreign travel documents and phones with international SIM cards to facilitate communication between international network elements and candidates during transitional operations.

According to a report by the Moroccan Interior Ministry, by November 2021, authorities had foiled around 42,000 irregular migration attempts by dismantling more than 156 human trafficking networks
