A joint security operation between elements of National Security and Customs at the El Guergarat border post, south of the city of Dakhla, led to the seizure of 362 kg and 950 grams of cocaine intended for Morocco from abroad.

Control and careful search operations led to the discovery of this cargo of hard drugs in the form of 16 bales carefully concealed in the cabin and body of an international goods transport truck registered in Morocco.

The search took place immediately after his arrival at the El Guergarat border post from a sub-Saharan African country, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), reporting the arrest of the driver of the truck and his assistant.

This security operation is part of the intense efforts deployed by the DGSN services to combat international drug trafficking and more particularly the illicit trade in hard drugs and psychotropic drugs coming from outside Morocco.

The kingdom has been shaken for several weeks by a scandalous affair of international trafficking of hard drugs.

The “revelations” of a drug trafficker are shaking sports and political circles, notes the daily Le Monde, in its edition of December 30, 2023. Around twenty individuals, including the country’s most successful football club leader and a regional president, were placed in pre-trial detention in Casablanca.
