Tourism is picking up. The first beneficiaries of this phenomenon are travel agencies, but also countries with great tourism potential. However, with the economic crisis, tourists prefer not to stray too far.
The Tunisia destination, still according to the figures on which this ranking is based, experienced an explosion in the “volume of business” calculated at 54% compared to 2019. The evolution of the “average basket” is 22 %, always in comparison with the year 2019.
Morocco, meanwhile, ranked the sixth destination for French tourists behind Tunisia, but also Turkey, saw an 82% increase in โbusiness volumeโ at the level of physical and digital travel agencies compared to 2019. โaverage basketโ, still according to this classification, has evolved by 30%.
French tourists: Algeria, the great absentee
Algeria, the largest country in the Maghreb, is also a big absentee in this ranking. Despite its enormous tourist potential, Algeria is struggling to attract foreign tourists. The main cause is related to the difficulty of obtaining a visa.
Algeria has therefore been able to distinguish itself by its absence from the tourist race while its two neighbors are stepping up their efforts to attract foreign visitors. The French are, for example, Tunisia’s leading tourist market this year (until June 30).
But if Algeria does not attract tourists, it does not fail to export them. Thousands of Algerians were waiting for the lifting of health restrictions to take their revenge on the two years lost due to the Covid. With the imminent opening of the land border with Tunisia, the number of Algerian tourists will undoubtedly double.
