Morocco holds King responsible for deteriorated situation

Moroccan protesters have called on King Mohammed VI to answer the people’s demands, blaming him for the deteriorating situation in the country.

Observers have said this is a shift in the relationship between the King and the people.

Activist and sociologist, Khalid Bakari, said this people are now separating themselves from the state and official institutions and this is something that must be watched.

Morocco has been suffering from a marked social disparity due to the high unemployment rates among young people. In 2017, the country ranked 123 out of 188 countries on the Human Growth Index.

In July the King ordered his government to “carry out a comprehensive and profound restructuring of social affairs,” especially regarding health and education.
