Several media have announced the start of the first sowing season in Morocco, which will subsequently produce the first cannabis harvest.  The first seeds were distributed to farmers on Sunday, April 30, 2023. They come from several countries such as Switzerland and Uruguay.

The newspaper “Al Araby Al Jadid” reported, in an article from May 1, 2023, that cannabis seeds will be planted on 105 hectares. 170 farmers took part in this program. This figure should reach 500 next season.

The newspaper “Tanja24”, for its part, recalled that the process of importing the seeds was preceded by the issuance of authorization from the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis Activities  (Anrac)  and the National Food Safety Office  (ONSSA).

The  Hespress newspaper interviewed one of the seed importers. The latter called it a strategic project. He praised the efforts of ONSSA and  Anrac for the success of this project.

As a reminder, the Moroccan parliament adopted in June 2021, a law legalizing the production of this plant for medical, cosmetic, and industrial purposes. Cannabis cultivation will take place in the regions of Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, and Taounate.
