Already bad for several years because of Western Sahara, Algerian-Moroccan relations have deteriorated markedly since the announcement of Morocco’s decision to normalize its relations with Israel.

Algeria has accused Morocco of seeking to “bring the Israeli and Zionist entity back to its borders”, which poses a threat to its national security.

In this context of political tensions, the wilaya of Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, has decided to declare “illegal” the Algerian platform of VTC Yassir, one of the few Algerian companies present in Morocco.

In a statement released on Friday, Casablanca assured that Yassir Maroc’s activities are “illegal”, while threatening the “officials” of this company as well as the “drivers involved in the aforementioned activities” with “sanctions provided for by law and regulations in force ”.

Yassir Maroc has not yet reacted to this decision by the wilaya of Casablanca.

Launched in 2017 in Algeria, the Yassir platform has been present in Morocco since July 2019, and has been able to deploy its services in four cities of the kingdom: Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier.

Yassir claims two million users and 40,000 partners, in addition to a presence in 25 Algerian cities, Morocco, Tunisia, Canada and France.

The Yassir company is a subsidiary of YA Technologies, a company based in Palo Alto in the United States which was created by three Algerians. The latter have “chosen to return to Algeria to pass on the know-how they have acquired abroad and encourage young Algerians to achieve their dreams”.
