Moroccan Airports: More than 18.4 Million Passengers at the End of November

The Kingdom’s airports welcomed 18,467,415 passengers during the first eleven months of this year, representing a recovery rate of 80% compared to the same period in 2019, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).

“For cumulative air traffic from January to the end of November 2022, Morocco’s airports continue to show improved recovery rates compared to the same period of 2019, welcoming 80% of passengers and 82% of airport movements, i.e. respectively 18,467,415 passengers and 157,687 airport movements for all the airports”, indicates the ONDA in a press release.

During the month of November alone, the airports of the Kingdom recorded a volume of commercial traffic of 1,914,705 passengers and 15,341 airport movements, i.e. recovery rates, respectively, of 96% and 92% compared to the same period of the year 2019, says the same source.

In detail, Casablanca Mohammed V airport, the Kingdom’s leading airport platform, welcomed 664,351 passengers during the month of November through 5,602 flights. This traffic represents 86% of air passenger traffic and 81% of airport movements recorded during the month of November 2019.

For the first 11 months of the year, Casablanca Mohammed V airport welcomed 6,844,387 passengers via 60,344 flights, representing a recovery rate of around 72% compared to the same period of 2019.

During the month of November, several airports reached, or even exceeded, the volume of passenger air traffic recorded during the same period of 2019, indicates the ONDA, noting that the recovery is consolidated during the first eleven months for airports in the regions of North and East with recovery rates greater than or equal to 100% (Tétouan: 431%, Oujda: 121%, Nador: 109%, Tangier: 105%). The same applies to the airports of Guelmim (142%) and Errachidia (99%).

In addition, the Office informs that domestic air traffic was recorded during the month of November 195,962 passengers in all the airports of the Kingdom. For the period from January to the end of November, this traffic recorded 1,953,335 passengers with a recovery rate of 71% compared to the same period of 2019.

International air traffic recorded 1,718,743 passengers during the same month, i.e. a recovery rate of 99% compared to the same period of 2019. For cumulative international traffic since the beginning of 2022, airports of the Kingdom welcomed 16,514,080 passengers, representing a recovery rate of 81%.

The markets of Europe, the Middle and Far East, and North America recorded, in November, recovery rates above 100%. Europe, which accounts for more than 83% of international air traffic, recorded a recovery rate of 101% compared to November 2019.

During this month of November, there were 15,341 airport movements, compared to 16,721 movements recorded during the same period of 2019, representing a recovery rate of 92%.

Air freight recorded 5,973 tons during the same month. For the cumulative freight from January to the end of November, there were 63,923 tonnes, representing a recovery rate of 74%.
