The Canadian mining company announces that it has obtained seven prospecting permits for silver and lead in the Addana project, in southern Morocco, with a validity of three years renewable. The company expects to start exploration work within six months.

Canada’s Trigon Metals has won seven new exclusive silver and lead exploration licenses at the Addana project, located in the town of Tata in southern Morocco. The obtaining of the prospecting permit for this polymetallic deposit, covering an area of 112 km2, was announced by the mining group in a press release published on Wednesday, June 28, which specifies that the authorizations are valid for three years renewable.

Tringon Metals indicates that it obtained these prospecting licenses as part of a reattribution of exploration permits in the Tata region, without revealing the financial arrangements for these operations. The next step is exploration work, which will begin in six months.

The Addana project is another example of the potential of world-class projects in Morocco. The seven permits include significant artisanal works which reveal the presence of silver-bearing lead veins,” said Jed Richardson, CEO of Trigon Metals, in the press release.

The Canadian mining company, which operates mines in Namibia in particular, is not its first experience in Morocco. Since 2020, it has been operating the Silver Hill silver and copper mine, a deposit with an area of 16 km2 in the Anti-Atlas region. A mine that the group resumed operation after the takeover, at the end of May 2020, of the Moroccan group Technomine Africa, which owned 100% of this project.

Expand its prospecting in Morocco

Covering an area 14 times larger than that of Silver Hill, the Addana project allows Tringon Metals to move to another dimension in its Moroccan projects. Better, “ the analysis of the residues of the area shows a potential of material concentrations of copper, zinc, and cobalt associated with silver and lead” , affirms Jed Richardson.

Obviously, the Moroccan subsoil attracts Canadian mining groups. On Thursday, June 29, Aya Gold & Silver also announced the acquisition of the historic Tirzzit copper mine, with a set of seven copper and silver extraction permits, located 25 km from its silver mine in Zgounder, for an amount of nearly 5 million dollars.

So many projects should enable Morocco to strengthen its position among the major silver-producing countries. According to the research firm on precious metals Metal Focus, the Kingdom was, in 2022, the first African producer of this metal and the 16th in the world.
