During the Algiers International Fair, Algeria and Italy displayed their current good understanding. The President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune also visited the Fiat stand to wish the acceleration of the production launch. He assured that Algeria would give its full support to Stellantis on these projects.
On the occasion of the 54th edition of the International Fair of Algiers (FIA) , Algeria and Italy displayed their complicity, hammering home their desire to work together in many sectors, including the automobile of course.
During his visit, the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune went to the pavilion of Italy, country guest of honor this year, and to the Fiat stand. He recalled that the Algerian automotive market was characterized by a sharply growing demand and that it was necessary to accelerate the start of production of Fiat vehicles in Algeria . Adding that in case of difficulties of any kind, the Algerian State was ready to intervene and that the Minister of Transport could be seized, and through him, the Presidency of the Republic in a direct way.
The Fiat plant in Oran will have a production capacity of 90,000 cars
He refers in particular to the construction of the Tafraoui plant (Oran) which was to end in August 2023 , with the production of the first Fiat 500s scheduled for the end of 2023. By 2026, this initiative should make it possible to create nearly 2 000 jobs, with an industrial localization rate expected at more than 30%. Annual production capacity will be 90,000 vehicles through the eventual manufacture of four Fiat models.
Since the end of 2022, Carlos Tavares , Chairman and CEO of Stellantis, has repeated on several occasions that the group is betting heavily on the Maghreb markets , announcing a strengthening of its investments in Morocco, the Kenitra plant being an important part of the industrial network of Stellantis , and the launch of production in Algeria with Fiat.
