Five unidentified bodies belonging to African illegal immigrants have been found in the Libyan desert, on the border with Tunisia: the Ministry of the Interior in Tripoli announced it on Facebook.

The bodies were found by Libyan border guards “patrolling the border area of Al-Essa, in the region stretching from Dahrat Al-Khas to Tawilat al-Ratba”, the statement said, quoted by the Ansamed agency.

The discovery took place “as part of the implementation of the Interior Ministry’s plan to secure the western Libyan-Tunisian borders and in application of the indications of the head of the apparatus, to intensify the work of the patrols, despite the high temperatures in the country”.

Hundreds of sub-Saharan migrants have been stranded for weeks at the border between Tunisia and Libya, in very difficult hygienic and climatic conditions.

The Libyan Red Crescent and the Unicef office in Libya intervened in the area and “provided drinking water, food and hygiene kits to around 400 migrants, a quarter of whom are children in urgent need,” read a tweet on Unicef Libya’s Twitter account, referring to the “ongoing humanitarian response at the Libya-Tunisia border to meet the needs of stranded migrants. ”

An increased response also thanks to the collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (OIF) in Libya, UNHCR Libya and the United Nations World Food Programme, adds Ansamed.
