Meeting of the Joint Military Commission (5 + 5) Monday for the first time in Libya

A meeting bringing together the parties to the conflict in the Libyan crisis, represented in the mixed military commission (5 + 5), will be held next Monday for the first time on Libyan soil, in the town of Ghadames, APS reported on Saturday, citing the UN Support Mission in Libya (Manul).

These talks follow the signing of a ceasefire agreement by the two delegations on October 23 in Geneva and will be followed by the Acting Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Williams, a- we specified.

Discussions between the partners will focus on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including the creation of sub-committees, as well as a monitoring and verification mechanism, the mission said.

As a reminder, the two opposing parties in the Libyan crisis signed a permanent ceasefire across Libya last Friday, after five days of talks in Geneva organized under the aegis of the United Nations.

“The Libyan parties have reached a permanent ceasefire agreement throughout Libya. This achievement represents an important turning point towards peace and stability in Libya, ”said Manul.

The signing of the agreement, held in the hall of the United Nations Palace in Geneva, lasted about ten minutes, followed by a round of applause, media reported

Last Wednesday, Stéphanie Williams, announced at a press conference held on the sidelines of the fourth round of the Military Commission (5 + 5) several concrete agreements between the belligerents, with a view to a settlement of the crisis, such as the opening of the country’s main land routes as well as that of some internal airways. Ms Williams had said she was optimistic about a definitive resolution of the crisis in Libya.
