The 19th edition of the 2022 Mediterranean Games hosted by the city of Oran in Algeria seems to give a new start to the JM who is returning to Algeria after more than 45 years.

The President of the Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune kicked off the games in the presence of his guest the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad Al-Tani, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as other prominent personalities, in a simply sumptuous atmosphere.

The IOC President was represented at the ceremony by a member of the Olympic body Mr. Mustapha Berraf who is also President of the Association of African National Olympic Committees (ANOCA).    

“Congratulations to Oran and Algeria for the basic infrastructure that will allow the city in western Algeria to organize world-class competitions in the future,” said Mr. Berraf.

As usual, the Greek delegation was the first to appear on the track at the brand new Oran stadium, this country being the cradle of the Olympic Games, followed by other delegations, in particular Italy, the largest delegation. taking part in the meeting in Oran with 371 athletes.

Those who were lucky enough to attend the ceremony created a beautiful atmosphere, rising each time as one man to greet each of the delegations.

For the president of the International Council for the Mediterranean Games (CIJM), Davide Tizzano, “the Oran ceremony is the best in the history of the JM. I really enjoyed the drones, the parade of the athletes… well, everything was marvelous”.

The public of Oran did not stop there! Stadiums, halls and other competition sites are packed. A total communion between the supporters of the different delegations, in the noble spirit of sport and Olympism.

It is already a success for the games of Oran with this remarkable presence of the public which gave a particular flavor to this regional sporting event.

Usually, the handball or volleyball football stadiums are full, but in Oran, the enthusiasm is the same for karate, judo, boxing, tennis but also… badminton.

The sports mass of Mediterranean youth continues bringing together nearly 3,500 athletes from 26 countries.
