Mediterranean Games 2022: Nearly 172 Athletes Will Represent Tunisia in 20 Disciplines

The Tunisian National Olympic Committee (CNOT) has announced that 172 athletes will represent Tunisia at the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games (JM) scheduled from June 25 to July 05, 2022, in the Algerian city of Oran.

According to the list published by the CNOT and consulted by Anadolu Agency, among the 101 sportsmen and 71 sportswomen participating in the competition, there are several renowned athletes, including the Olympic medalist in taekwondo, Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi, the African champion of 2022 and 2017 world vice-champion, wrestler Marwa Amri, African champion judoka Nihel Cheikhrouhou and 2021 world weightlifting champion Ghofrane Belkhir.

Tunisia will be represented in 20 disciplines by 9 athletes in athletics, 8 basketball players, 7 boules and pétanque athletes, 7 boxers, 8 cyclists, 5 fencers, 7 weightlifters, 32 handball players, 11 judokas, 8 karatekas, 9 wrestlers, 2 in swimming, 5 in equestrian sport, 5 others in taekwondo, 4 tennis players, 4 in table tennis, 9 in shooting, 2 in archery, 6 in sailing and 24 volleyball players.

The Minister of Communication of the host country, the Algerian Mohamed Bouslimani, underlined, on June 2, during a forum of the Alliance of Mediterranean Press Agencies (AMAN) held in Oran, in Algeria, with the participation of representatives of the Anadolu Agency, the importance of the role of the Mediterranean media in the promotion of sport as a factor of rapprochement between nations.

For his part, the editor-in-chief of international news at the Anadolu Agency (AA), Faruk Tokat, had indicated that the World Youth Days are an invitation to peace, friendship and brotherhood between countries and peoples through sport.
