Five Tunisian healthcare projects, with a combined value of approximately $79.7m (KWD24.3m), have been approved for funding by Kuwait.
Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed a loan agreement worth $79.4m (KWD24m) to build four hospitals across Tunisia.
Funding for the four hospitals will be provided at an interest rate of 1.5%, to be repaid within 20 years, with a four-year grace period.
Construction, as well as equipment sourcing, for the four hospitals will be completed through the sum.
Each hospital will be constructed with a capacity for 105 beds, with the projects – which also include service buildings – due for completion in 2021.
Additionally, a grant worth $993,400 (KWD300,000) has been approved to prepare a technical and economic feasibility study for a cancer centre in the Tunisian capital.
In a press statement, KUNA reported that the project would “provide necessary medical services so as to decrease death rates caused by a delay in treatment, [and] also absorb pressures on other cancer centres” in the country.
KFAED’s director-general, Abdulwahab Al-Bader, said the loan and grant were provided as part of the support programme announced by Kuwait during the Tunisia 2020 conference last December.
