The President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed arrived Friday in Algiers for a two-day visit at the invitation of his counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune to participate, as guest of honor, in the 7th Forum of presidents and heads of government, gas exporting countries.

He was welcomed by his Algerian counterpart at the Houari-Boumédiène International Airport where they saluted the two flags to the sound of the national anthem of the two countries.

Kaïs Saïed is accompanied in this visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, and the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Fatma Thabet Chiboub.

Algeria is hosting, from February 29 to March 2, the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries which will focus on joint cooperation issues between the main producing countries of this hydrocarbon. The objective is to guarantee the stability of gas markets and to face potential challenges.

A declaration, “The Algiers Declaration”, will be issued at the end of the work. The text will be discussed and revised by a group of experts before being adopted by presidents and heads of government.

The Forum of Gas Exporting Countries brings together 12 permanent members, namely Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

The Forum also has 7 observer members: Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique and Peru.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum is an intergovernmental organization founded in 2001 in Tehran that brings together the main gas-producing countries. These countries hold 70 pc of proven global gas reserves, more than 40 pc of marketed production, 47 pc of exports by pipeline, and more than half of global exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The Forum helps chart the future of energy in the world and serves as a platform for cooperation and dialogue aimed at defending the sovereign rights of member countries over their natural gas resources.
