The executive committee of the Ennahdha party made public, Thursday, February 29, 2024, a press release signed by its secretary general Ajmi Lourimi where it denounces, in particular, “the continuation of legal decisions against political opponents”, many of whom come from its ranks, including former speaker of parliament Rached Ghannouchi and former head of government Ali Larayedh.

The Tunisian Islamist party also denounces in its press release “the violation of [judicial] procedures and the absence of guarantees, in total disregard of defense committees, national organizations for the defense of human rights and international reports”.

In this context, Ennahdha “condemns the prison sentence handed down against Dr. Mohamed Moncef Marzouki, the former President of the Republic, and Dr. Jaouher Ben Mbarek, one of the leaders of the National Salvation Front, which shocked the defense, families and public opinion.”

While expressing its “gratitude for the determination and patience of political leaders and all detained activists who insist on their innocence, the justness of their cause and the legitimacy of their demands”, Ennahdha underlines the incapacity of the power in place to manage the country in the face of “the worsening economic and social crisis and the growing suffering [of Tunisians] in the face of poverty, unemployment and the shortage of basic products”, as well as “the responsibility of the authorities in the rise of tension between the UGTT and the government due to the lack of dialogue, differences of opinion and disagreements on national priorities.

Furthermore, while deploring “the electoral obsession which dominates in the official discourse, which sees in the legitimate social and political demands of citizens a conspiracy, an accusation which is put forward for not assuming responsibilities and facing the deep crisis that our people are experiencing today, politically, legally, economically, socially and above all in terms of standard of living”, Ennahdha affirms its “rejection of the use of the Palestinian cause as a subject of political competition or settling of scores interiors”, of which he seems to accuse the power embodied by the president of the republic Kaïs Saïed, the great defender of the Palestinian cause before the Lord.
